KUCHING: A cyber outlet worker was killed in a road accident at Mile 10 Landeh Road yesterday after a motorcycle ridden by a friend rammed into the rear of a truck.
The deceased, identified as Eron Presly Justlly, 15, was heading back to his house at Taman Landeh when the tragedy happened around 9.30am.
Witnesses claimed the accident occurred after the motorcycle carrying Eron and his friend slammed into the rear of a delivery truck following a failed overtaking move.
The duo was said to have overtaken several vehicles and were attempting to overtake the truck when they crashed into its rear.
The deceased- the eldest of four siblings- died on the spot while his friend sustained light injuries and was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital.
Meanwhile, Eron’s mother rushed to the scene with her daughter and a neighbour after hearing the news and broke down upon seeing her son’s body sprawled on the road.
She said Eron stopped schooling to work at a cyber cafe at Mile 10 bazaar, and he was on his way back home after completing his night shift when the accident happened.
Eron’s remains were taken by traffic police personnel to Sarawak General Hospital, where it was met by his security guard father – who had hurried over from his workplace upon learning of the accident.
In a separate incident, the body of a motorcyclist was found inside a monsoon drain along Jalan Batu Kawah yesterday, some 12 hours after he had left his workplace for home.
The deceased was identified by police as Walter Rimong Michael, 25, of RPR Batu Kawah.
The discovery was made around noon when a woman and her mother spotted Walter’s body partially submerged inside the drain not far from his motorcycle.
The woman, who identified herself as Sherra Bong, told reporters that she and her mother had alighted from a bus near SK Garland and had walked a short distance before they saw the body.
Police were summoned to the scene to retrieve the body, which was then identified by a member of the public, who quickly notified family members.
It was learned that Walter worked at a sports complex along Jalan Wan Alwi and had left his workplace for home around midnight after completing his shift.
