The friend of the deceased student is currently in a critical condition and is being treated at the the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), said Petaling Jaya traffic police chief Deputy Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif.
Mohamad Roy said the victim, 20-year-old Chua Yee Jing and a friend were leaving the shopping centre at about 4.30am when the driver lost control of his MyVi and crashed into a traffic light under the Lebuh Bandar Utama flyover.
He added a police from the Damansara police station, who was on duty on the flyover, reported the car had run a red light before crashing into the post.
“At the same time, a Volkswagen Scirocco travelling from Puchong towards Kepong was unable to avoid the car in time and crashed into them. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene," said Mohamad Roy.
Mohamad Roy added that the Volkswagen driver sustained injuries to his chest and that the case was being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
At the UMMC mortuary, Chua’s boyfriend, who only wanted to be known as Marcus said she was returning from celebrating a friend’s birthday.
