BATU PAHAT: A Hari Raya visit by two Lower Six students to their teacher’s house turned tragic when they died after their motorcycle was hit by a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The victims Nur Farah Artika Kamarulzaman and Hafizah Zakaria, both 18, were thrown about 20m when a Perodua Kenari car rammed into their motorcycle.
The incident took place on Friday at around 6.55pm along KM143, Jalan Johor Baru-Melaka near Parit Bisu, Semerah here.
The students of SMK Kebangsaan Semerah were rushed to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital but pronounced dead at around 9pm and 11pm respectively.
Nur Farah Artika’s mother, Tumisah Suri, 52, said her daughter and Hafizah were good friends.
“Prior to the incident, she told me not to call her mobile phone as she could not hear the phone ringing while on the motorcycle,” she said.
Tumisah, a single mother, said her daughter wanted her to stop working after she finished school as she would be able to provide for the family.
Nur Farah Artika’s body was buried at the Sungai Nibong Muslim cemetery here after Zohor prayers while Hafizah’s body was brought back to Sungai Balang, Muar.
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Din Ahmad confirmed the case and urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
